Flora (3D)

NodeFest: Flora and Fauna

This project was created in a studio class during my final semester at RMIT. I wanted to show the endurance and rebirth of Australian flora, despite ongoing bushfires. Using crystals to represent the strength of flora, and lava for the flow of fires, this was an abstract approach to the brief.

Initially designed to be modelled and animated in Blender, I was inspired throughout the semester by studios like Rigend Film, Dirty Puppet, and Jumbla, to dive into the world of Cinema4D. With a month to go, I scrapped my initial models, downloaded the new software, and after sweat, tears, and several tutorials, created this piece.

This animatic was the key guide in timing each scene's animations, and reducing any excess rendering.

Initial sketches focused on world building what Australian flora would look like in crystal form.

Rough storyboarding started to build the story and how many scenes needed to be created for the project.

The original style frame was created in Blender, where the project was initially planned to be created. However, in attempts to grow, I took this into Cinema4D, and adjusted the designs to find balance between aesthetics and faster renders.
